What Is IDRC in New Jersey?
IDRC stands for the Intoxicated Driver Resource Center, a court-mandated program required for anyone convicted of a drug- or alcohol-related driving or boating offense in New Jersey. Rather than a treatment program itself, the IDRC serves as an educational and screening checkpoint: participants attend a 12- or 48-hour session covering the effects of drugs and alcohol on driving, complete a screening interview with a certified counselor, and, if the screening indicates a substance use concern, receive a referral for further treatment ranging from outpatient counseling to inpatient rehabilitation.
Attendance is mandatory in lieu of jail time, and the IDRC monitors ongoing compliance, reporting back to the sentencing court and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission if requirements aren’t met. For individuals referred out of an IDRC, Pathways Treatment Center can serve as that next step, providing the licensed treatment services, whether outpatient, intensive outpatient, or another level of care, needed to satisfy the referral and support lasting recovery.

What Pathways provides is the evaluation, education, counseling, and treatment services that often run alongside or after your county IDRC attendance, the substance-use evaluation your referral requires, the counseling your evaluation recommends, or the completion documentation your court or the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) needs. For many clients, this is the piece of the process that determines whether a requirement is actually satisfied, not just attended.
What to Expect at Pathways Treatment Center

- Receive your recommendation. If treatment is clinically recommended or required by your referral, our team will explain the appropriate services, expected schedule, responsibilities, and completion requirements.
- Complete the required services. Clients must attend scheduled sessions, participate appropriately, follow the treatment plan, and satisfy applicable program requirements.
- Receive completion reporting. With a valid authorization, Pathways can provide required progress and completion information to the appropriate IDRC or referring agency.
When a Higher Level of Care Is Recommended
Not every evaluation results in the same recommendation. Depending on what your assessment shows, your plan may include more than outpatient counseling. Pathways offers the full continuum this might call for, including:
Our intensive outpatient program provides a higher level of structured support with multiple sessions a week, while still allowing you to keep working, attend school, or manage family responsibilities. It’s a common next step for clients whose evaluation shows they need more than standard outpatient counseling, but not the full-day structure of PHP.
Our partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the most intensive outpatient level Pathways offers, built for clients whose clinical needs call for daytime structured treatment while returning home each evening. If your evaluation points to a substance use pattern serious enough to need daily clinical support, this is typically where that recommendation lands.
For some clients, medication-assisted treatment paired with therapy makes the rest of the treatment plan more manageable; reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms so the counseling and education components can actually take hold. MAT is incorporated when it’s clinically appropriate as part of a broader recovery plan, not offered as a standalone fix.
If your evaluation surfaces a connection between your substance use and an underlying condition, depression, anxiety, PTSD, or another mental health concern, treating one without the other rarely holds. Our dual diagnosis treatment addresses both simultaneously, which is often the difference between completing a requirement and actually resolving what led to it.

If your plan doesn’t cover part of the process, we’ll go over self-pay and financing options so a gap in coverage doesn’t hold up a court or MVC deadline.
